Cleveland Public Library Is Pleased to Announce a New Contract Agreement with SEIU District 1199

Cleveland Public Library is pleased to announce a new contract agreement with SEIU District 1199. SEIU members ratified the contract on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.

The Cleveland Public Library Board of Trustees unanimously approved the terms of the ratified contract agreement at a special session held on Thursday, January 30.

Since November, the Library has been negotiating a contract with SEIU, which represents nearly 400 librarians, library assistants, and custodians. Through countless talks, bargaining in good faith, and teamwork, both sides reached an agreement to avoid disruption of services and programming to our community.

Cleveland Public Library welcomes the new three-year contract, which takes effect immediately. The new contract establishes an equitable compensation system that helps support a sustainable future for the organization while reflecting the contributions and concerns of our staff.

“We would not be the organization we are today without our Library staff. The Library employs knowledgeable, hard-working staff members who care about library service, our patrons, and the institution’s mission. We deeply appreciate and respect all our employees and are grateful for their service.” said Cleveland Public Library Executive Director and CEO Felton Thomas, Jr.
