Cleveland Chinese Music Ensemble
Saturday May 20, 2017
Northeast Ohio’s traditional Chinese orchestra returns to the library for a program of rare treasures from China’s classical music heritage, including instrumental pieces and poetic songs from the Tang, Song, and Ming dynasties, some dating back over 1,000 years. The ensemble will perform on an array of instruments including dizi and xiao (bamboo flutes), guan (oboe), sheng (mouth organ), pipa (lute), and a variety of percussion. Joining the ensemble for this performance will be two special guests: guqin (7-string zither) soloist Ke Li and vocalist Zhang Wei, both professors of musicology specializing in ancient Chinese music at China’s Jiangxi Normal University who are spending 2017-2018 as visiting scholars at Kent State University.
