A Dream Realized: Construction Underway on New Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch

Cleveland Public Library honors the past, present, and future with its new Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch in University Circle.

Saturday, August 20 | 10:30 a.m.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch of Cleveland Public Library
1962 Stokes Boulevard, Cleveland, OH 44106

The community is invited to join Library leadership and other dignitaries to celebrate the start of construction at a groundbreaking ceremony.

JKURTZ Architects and SO-IL will reimagine the branch. The new Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch will occupy the first two floors of an 11-story apartment building called the Library Lofts. The branch will include

  • A Social Justice Center and a “table of brotherhood” inspired by King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech
  • The Library’s Anisfield-Wolf Book collection which honors writing on race and equality
  • An expanded children’s area and dedicated teen space
  • 24-hour access to materials with Grab & Go Book Lockers
  • More community rooms

The project is part of Cleveland Public Library’s 10-year plan to build or renovate neighborhood libraries to enhance the visitor experience. The current branch will remain open during construction. For project updates, visit our coUrbanize project site.
