World Day of Puppetry Celebrated in Our Fair City

An audience of children watching a puppet show on a stage.The Puppetry Guild of Northeastern Ohio, in association with the Cleveland Public Library, and Puppeteers of America, will be holding a grand event in celebration of World Day of Puppetry on Saturday March 24, 2018. The event will be held at the Cleveland Public Library’s Main Branch, at  325 Superior Ave. Cleveland, Ohio 44114, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and concluding at 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The event will feature puppet related demonstrations and activities for children, as well as adults, an exhibit of many puppets from around the world, a Puppet Store, where visitors can purchase puppets of their own, and performances by world class puppeteers and puppet companies including; Melikin Puppets (Chicago IL), National Marionette Theater (Erie, PA), Cleveland’s own Great Lakes National Puppet Theater, and Nancy Sander’s Puppets with Pizzazz. Nancy was the puppet builder and puppeteer behind the locally produced, Emmy Award winning, children’s television show, “Hickory Hideout“.

Its purpose is to encourage and promote puppetry as a means of communication, an extension of human expression, and as a performing art; to enhance the proficiency of the Art of Puppetry, both professional and amateur.
