Cleveland Public Library is proud to be hosting Caldecott and Coretta Scott King award winner Javaka Steptoe along with Cleveland’s own Shelley Pearsall next Saturday, July 15th at 2pm in the Learning Commons (2nd Floor, LSW). The program is open to all and registration is not required.
Javaka Steptoe is an eclectic young artist, designer, and illustrator, building a national reputation as an outstanding contributor to the genre of children’s literature. In his award winning title, Radiant Child, Javaka Steptoe’s vivid text and bold artwork echoing Basquiat’s own introduce young readers to the powerful message and art doesn’t always have to be neat or clean–and definitely not inside the lines–to be beautiful.
Shelley Pearsall is the author of six books for middle grade and teen readers. Inspired by actual events, All of the Above is the delightful and suspenseful story of four Cleveland middle school students and their quest to set a math record by building the world’s largest tetrahedron pyramid. Art by award-winning artist, Javaka Steptoe.
