About
Located in the Hough-Ward 7 neighborhood, Addison Branch serves an ethnically diverse population in Cleveland. Addison offers free wifi, 20 public computers with Internet access, and a cellphone charging station. Printing, copying, scanning, and faxing services are available for a fee. A meeting room seats up to 50 patrons and may be reserved in advance. This branch also features a free parking lot and an outdoor courtyard with benches and a patio.
History & Architecture
Erected in 1989, Addison Branch measures 7,500 square feet. This one-story contemporary building of brick and steel was designed by Cleveland architect Stephen J. Bucchieri, who also designed the Cleveland Museum of Art’s indoor garden and Cambridge University’s medieval bookshelves. Bucchieri burned manganese ironspot brick for Addison’s exterior walls. The branch’s interior features a barrel-vaulted ceiling and clerestory windows that provide natural light. The glass brick front window is shaped as a stylized Egyptian cross. While the exterior of the building is a nod to Cleveland’s industrial heritage, the interior reflects the cultural tradition of Cleveland and the traditional library.”
