Get in the Game! Cleveland Public Library Hosts Gaming and Esports

Calling all gamers! Cleveland Public Library is bringing back CPL Play, our gaming and esports program, for all to enjoy this summer.

“CPL Play exposes people to everything from new video games to board games. It offers a competitive gaming experience for those who love a challenge,” said Tristan Wheeler, Audiovisual & Event Planning Specialist and organizer of CPL Play at Cleveland Public Library. “Everyone is invited no matter your gaming level or knowledge.”

Starting Saturday, July 11, CPL Play will host monthly gaming, workshops, and live-streamed events on Cleveland Public Library’s channel from 2 p.m. –  6 p.m.

CPL Play will offer a different gaming experience every other Saturday. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all events will be hosted online instead of inside the Louis Stokes Wing Learning Commons.

“The safety of our gamers is important to us. Cleveland Public Library found a safe way and space for competitors and enthusiasts to still connect and learn new techniques from the best players in our area,” said Dr. Sadie Winlock, Chief Equity, Education & Engagement Officer of Cleveland Public Library.

Saturday’s gaming and esports lineup will include the following popular games:

  • The King of Fighters XIV
  • Rocket League
  • Killer Instinct
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Splatoon 2
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

There will also be an unboxing of Playseat Evolution Alcantara Racing Chair and the Logitech G920 Driving Force Racing Wheel. Participants will get a tech tutorial and receive exclusive information about future tournaments.

“CPL Play allows gamers to show off their skills, watch great gaming action, and network with the best players, game developers, and business owners in Northeast Ohio,” remarks Wheeler. “Esports turns video gaming into a community event.”

Competitors are encouraged to register for CPL Play events. No registration or download is required for spectators and casual fans.
