Dog Day of Summer

We’re letting the dogs in! Bring your well-mannered canine companion(s) to the Main Library and join the fun! Dress your pet (and yourself ) in your best costumes and strut your stuff. Show off your pet’s best tricks. Visit Rescue Row to meet local rescue groups, find your next pet or volunteer to help. Enjoy fun photo ops, free dog biscuits, a Pooch Pool Party, and our Krypto Look-Alike Contest. Don’t miss an afternoon of doggone fun times at your library!

Krypto Look-Alike Contest

Do you think your dog looks like Krypto? Or do you think Krypto really should have looked like your dog? Enter your pooch in our Krypto Look-Alike Contest and join the fun! Enter online starting July 3 by posting your pooch on Instagram with #CPLKrypto and briefly explain your dog’s superpower. Then, vote on your favorites by liking other doggie photos. Bring your dogs to the library on Dog Day and enjoy the reveal at 3:00 p.m.

2 p.m. – Canine Communication & Body Language join us for a discussion and Q&A
3 p.m. – Krypto Look-Alike Contest winners announced!
4 p.m. – Canine Massage 101 learn basic canine massage techniques

Welcome to the Dog Day of Summer!

Please keep things fun and safe for everyone by following a few simple rules:
  • Dogs are welcome in these specified areas:
  • Eastman Reading Garden
  • Louis Stokes Wing: Lower Level (including  restrooms)
  • Louis Stokes Wing: 1st floor (including Indoor Reading Garden & Gift Shop)
  • Louis Stokes Wing: 3rd floor (including restrooms)
  • Dogs, please keep your human on a leash at all times! (Please keep retractable leashes locked at 6 feet or less.)
  • Play nicely with other dogs and humans. Aggressive or destructive dogs and their humans will be asked to leave library premises.
  • Dog, make sure your human cleans up any accidents. Clean-up supplies are available. Ask a library staff member.
  • Children under age 6 must be accompanied by and supervised by an adult at all times. Please do not allow your child to pet or approach someone else’s dog without permission from its owner.
