The Miscellaneous Memorabilia of Charles W. Chesnutt

Included in this digital collection are items originating from various collections related to Charles Waddell Chesnutt (1858-1932). Chesnutt was a prominent African-American writer, best known for his short stories, essays, and his biography about the antislavery leader Frederick Douglass. His stories focused on folk life of African Americans, civil rights, and racial intermarriage. He moved to Cleveland in 1883 and is buried in Lake View Cemetery. These collections include family photographs, memorabilia, documents, and manuscripts.
