Spiritual Five Singers Records

The Spiritual Five Singers were organized in 1952 in Cleveland, Ohio. The gospel music group emerged from the Golden Star Singers of York, Alabama, that performed in the late 1940s. The original members of the Spiritual Five were Johnny, Nathan, and Willie Yarbrough, Willie Samuels, and H.J. Wynn. The group performed in churches, nursing homes, hospitals, and prisons. In 1975, the group began to sponsor an annual Cancer Gospel-Thon, benefiting the American Cancer Society. The collection consists of written histories, minutes, correspondence, programs, original compositions, newspaper clippings, certificates, and awards.
