Photograph Album and Photograph Collection Assembled by an African-American Soldier Serving in Europe

During World War II, near 2.5 million African-American men registered for the draft and almost 1 million of them enlisted in the military. African-American men served in all branches of the military despite unequal treatment and segregation from white soldiers. The Photograph Album and Photograph Collection Assembled by an African-American Soldier Serving in Europe contains photographs of African-American soldiers during their downtime in World War II, along with pictures of the local people and scenery. Though the creator of this collection is unknown, the photographs were taken sometime between 1942 and 1945.
