Mary Jane Baylor Papers

Mary Jane Baylor was the first African-American salesperson to work for the Halle Brothers Company of Cleveland, Ohio. Beginning in 1944 in the stock department, she moved on to a clerical position, and in 1950, as a salesperson in the children and infants’ department. She received commendations for her service and awards for her ability to thwart crime and prevent fraud. The collection consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, newsletters, and guest lists.
