Eugene Bailey Photographs 

Eugene Bailey (1913-1942) was an African-American from Cleveland, Ohio, who attended Virginia State College for Negroes, excelling in athletics. Bailey became physical education director at Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Va. and then enlisted in the Navy at the start of World War II. In 1942, he was killed in an explosion at the Norfolk Navy Yard. The collection consists of individual and group portraits of Eugene Bailey, his family and friends; and views of life at college, athletic events, and campuses, including Hampton College in Virginia.
