Cleveland Public Library will be hosting a free, weekly, five-part seminar series from Saturday, September 30 through Saturday, October 28, 2017 on building and maintaining a small business. Attendees are welcome to attend all sessions or only those that provide pertinent information for their current situation. See complete list of session descriptions below..

Saturday, September 30 – 12:00-1:00 pm
Covers all essential issues for starting your own business: how to evaluate your idea, how to determine what you need to earn, how to evaluate your risks, and how to identify the competition. The importance of having a business plan and of completion of the necessary Ohio Department of Development forms are also discussed.
Developing a Winning Business Plan
Saturday, October 7 – 12:00-1:00 pm
Learn to prepare a strong business plan to launch your business and to secure financing. Learn to tie your goals, objectives, and actions to the development of your financial plan, an important component of the business plan. Understand the differences between strategic plans and business plans.
Accounting for Small Business
Saturday, October 14 – 12:00-1:00 pm
For entrepreneurs or small business owners who have evaluated their ideas but need a more in-depth understanding of accounting and financial records. Various accounting documents (e.g., balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports) are discussed, and the importance of separating personal finances from business finances is stressed. Financial records and documents needed to secure a loan are also explained.
The Art of Marketing

For entrepreneurs or small business owners who do not know the basic elements of marketing or who wish to expand their market presence. Marketing operations, marketing strategy development, the adoption life cycle for products, market segmentation, and the competitive forces affecting marketing products and services are all discussed.
Taxes for the Small Business

This session is intended for entrepreneurs or small business owners to provide basic information on taxes and where to go for additional information every small business person should know.
