The Mayor Frank G. Jackson Scholarship Program was created by the City of Cleveland in 2007.
Eligible Students
- City of Cleveland employees
- Dependents of City of Cleveland employees
- High School Seniors graduating from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District
- High School Seniors in the Youth Development Program or involved with the City of Cleveland Department of Recreation
How to Apply
- Visit www.collegenowgc.org/find-scholarships and click on the scholarship link to complete the online application
- Write a 500-word essay answering one of the three following questions:
- If you were involved in Cleveland city government, what singular issue would you take the most interest in? What possible solutions would you propose to this issue? How do you see your talents impacting this issue and what would you do to bring about a positive change?
- Local government often has more real-world impact on the everyday lives of citizens, than at any other level of government. However, surveys show voter turnout for younger people is low. Why do you think this trend is occurring and how can we get more young people to vote?
- How would you encourage more people, particularly high school and college students, to become engaged in local civic activity?
- In addition to your application you will need to submit to College Now:
- A copy of your most recent academic transcript
- 2018 / 2019 Student Aid Report (FAFSA results)
- Two Letters of Recommendation
- Proof of high school graduation or GED completion
- Selected scholarship recipients must be a full-time (minimum 12 credit hours each term) student at a four-year, public or private, not-for-profit higher education institution.
- Scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years from the first awarded academic year. To be eligible for renewal of the scholarship, you must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA and full-time status.
