Transitioning to Centers of Learning

There is a seismic shift taking place in the library community as a whole, and Cleveland Public Library is again leading the way to create centers of learning. The old model of simply providing information and resources is giving way to a new mentality that drives a culture of learning. Libraries are no longer simply a place to read books, although books will always remain a cornerstone of the Library’s core identity.

In 2012, Cleveland Public Library opened eight new Learning Centers to complement the original Learning Center that was created at the Rice Branch in 2010. The new Learning Centers are located at the Sterling, Collinwood, Langston Hughes, Eastman, Fulton, Fleet, Harvard-Lee and Rockport Branches. Services include:

  • After-school tutoring
  • Computer classes
  • ACT and related college-prep training
  • GED training
  • Digital arts programming
  • Music theory training
  • ESOL
  • Foreign language instruction
