It's a Digital World!

The Library’s commitment to and investment in technology were reflected in so many different ways in 2012, starting (but not ending) with TechCentral. Prior to the opening of TechCentral, the Main Library had 60 computers scattered throughout its buildings. All Internet-access computers have since been moved to the TechCentral location for convenient access, and their numbers increased by 50 percent in 2012, bringing the grand total of desktop computers at the Main Library to 90.

Partially as a result of the additional computers, usage was up 33 percent in 2012 at the Main Library alone. Hours of computer usage were up 23 percent over 2011. Use of eMedia (including the downloading of eBooks) also increased 38 percent over the previous year. Such increases are especially noteworthy since the number of people coming through the doors of the Main Library remained static between 2011 and 2012.

The number of computers also doubled at all of the branches. New computers with the most up-to-date software and browsing capabilities were added throughout the system to meet growing demand.
