One of the recently added items to the collection is the National Songs Collection. This collection consists of sheet music and songbooks with a Patriotic flair or National Anthems as well as election songs from the 1930s – 1950s. The collection’s songs aren’t only limited to American songs. There are also a number of songs in there from Germany, China, Russia, and other countries. This is a great collection to use if you want to get an idea of the musical political movement in the early 1900s.
One of the more interesting things about the collection is the amount of songs that deal with the socialist movement of the 19th century to the 1940s and 50s. There are multiple copies of The Internationale, which became the de-facto National anthem for the socialist movement in the late 1890’s. Along with The Internationale, there are also multiple copies of Paint Creek Miner: Famous Labor Songs from Appalachia by Charles Patterson.
