Music at Main: Ensemble Lautenkonzert

Stephen ToombsThe final 2009 "Music at Main" event will feature "Ensemble Lautenkonzert" on December 5th, 2009 at 2PM on the 3rd floor lobby of Main Library (325 Superior Ave, Cleveland, Ohio, 44114). Ensemble Lautenkonzert was formed in 1995 to explore late 17th and early 18th century chamber music. Please join us for this FREE event! 

Guitar recital on Saturday, April 5th, 2008

GuitaristsThe Cleveland Public Library’s Fine Arts Department is pleased to present a program of classical guitar music this Saturday, April 5th, 2008, at 2pm. The performers will be Jonathan Godfrey and Benjamin Kunkel, both Master of Music candidates at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Music performed will feature solo guitar works by Scarlatti, Sor, Villa-Lobos, Torroba, Mangoré, and Brindle. Pangea percussion ensemble to perform in the Fine Arts Department

Pangea - traditional African percussion ensemblePangea will perform Bewaa (recreational), Bine (funeral), and Bagr Bine (sacred) music of the Dagara people, ritual drumming of the Ewe People, recreational drumming of the Ga people, and ceremonial music of the Baganda people. Please join us at 3pm on Saturday, February 23rd, 2008 in the Fine Arts Department!

Pangea was founded in the Spring of 2006 by Tom Roblee and Matt Jacklin as a traditional African music ensemble with the goal of performing and educating audiences. The ensemble is primarily dedicated to gyil (xylophone) music of the Dagara and Sissala people from northwestern Ghana. As Pangea evolved, other music from Ghana and Uganda has enhanced its repertoire.

Jazz Concerts at Cleveland Public Library

Vince Robinson and the Jazz PoetsCleveland Public Library will host a series of four jazz concerts to mark the 2007 Adult Summer Reading Club. The theme of this year’s summer-long club is “Poetry, Prose, and a Passion for Reading.”

 

The Adult Summer Reading Club runs from June 15th to August 3rd. To enter the weekly prize drawings adults 18 years or older may pick up, fill out, and submit entry forms at any Cleveland Public Library branch or the Main Library downtown. There will be a Grand Prize Drawing on Friday, August 10th. Participants must read one book or three magazine articles, or listen to one audio book, for each entry submitted.
