Did you know the Cleveland Clinic has a concert band?  Why not check them out at 12 noon on Friday July 3rd, 2009 here at the library? The band will give a free concert in the Main Library's Eastman Reading Garden. Bring your lunch and enjoy the festive tunes of the season as the Band shares patriotic and American standards like; The Star Spangled Banner, Georgia on my Mind, and God Bless America. On June 27, 2009, the Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) will open the first of three new wings designed by architect Rafael Viñoly, marking a major milestone in the museum's renovation and expansion project. The 139,200-square-foot East Wing connects CMA's original 1916 Beaux-Arts building, designed by Hubbell and Benes, and the 1971 addition by Marcel Breuer, and creates new spaces for the presentation and conservation of one of the nation's leading encyclopedic collections. Viñoly's design for the addition unites two historically significant buildings, physically and aesthetically, with a third, new structure that contributes to the greater architectural whole of the museum. CMA's renowned collections of 19th century European sculpture, painting, and decorative arts, modern and contemporary art, and photography will return to public view for the first time since the museum closed its galleries in 2005. The phased renovation and expansion of the facility will, when it is completed in 2012, add an additional 200,000 square feet, including two more wings and a soaring glass-enclosed atrium at the center of the new complex that will serve as an inspiring civic space for the benefit of the entire community.

Visit downtown Cleveland's outstanding lunch spot this summer. Relax in the beautiful surroundings of the Eastman Reading Garden, listen to music and enjoy a delicious box lunch. Performances begin at 12:15. If inclement weather the program will be moved inside to the Louis Stokes Wing Auditorium. On June 20th, 2009 at 2pm the Fine Arts Department will present James and Sylvia Kalal performing a program entitled "Mediterranean Ports of Call." This program will feature European Baroque and Renaissance music for guitar and lute. The Kalals will perform works by Vivaldi and Bach along with traditional melodies from various European countries. 

The recital will be on the 3rd floor lobby of Main Library (325 Superior Ave., Cleveland, Ohio, 44114).
