Author Wes Moore Comes to Cleveland Public Library

    5/7/2013 10:16:25 AM

Most of us would simply chalk it up to coincidence if we read a story in our local newspaper about another person who shares our name. Author Wes Moore was, instead, driven to investigate.

Wes MooreMoore, a Rhodes Scholar, veteran, White House Fellow and business leader contacted the other Wes Moore who was serving a life sentence for murder. The two men discovered that they shared similar backgrounds and early circumstances. As their relationship developed, so did the story of the sharply diverging paths each man’s life took as a result of individual choices.

Wes Moore’s visit is presented by College Now Greater Cleveland in partnership with the Cleveland Public Library. His story illustrates the power of education and mentoring in helping young people rise above difficult circumstances to secure a bright future and his commitment to promoting causes which help young people succeed. The Other Wes Moore is currently being read by 100 Greater Cleveland high school students participating in the Rockin’ the 216 program offered at the Harvard-Lee and Rockport branches of Cleveland Public Library, delivered by College Now Greater Cleveland. The program is designed to enhance math & reading proficiency, improve students’ ACT scores and develop technological capabilities through video and recording arts training.
