Branch Changes at Cleveland Public Library

    10/5/2012 1:06:10 PM

Cleveland Public Library (CPL) is proposing to its Board of Trustees on October 18th the closing of the Broadway Branch, located at 5417 Broadway Ave., and the temporary relocation of the South Branch, located at 3096 Scranton Road.

Due to serious heating and building safety issues, the Broadway Branch will close on November 2, 2012. Broadway patrons can use the Fleet Branch, a mile away on a major bus line. Fleet is a full-service library with a diverse collection, extensive programming, and one of CPL's new Learning Centers, which offers GED and college preparatory classes and after school tutoring.

CPL is holding two community meetings about the closing of the Broadway Branch. The first meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 10, at 6:00 p.m. at the Broadway Branch. The second meeting will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, at the Fleet Branch. The Fleet Branch is also hosting an open house to welcome Broadway patrons and the community on Saturday, November 3.

The South Branch will temporarily close to make heating and other major repairs. It will move two blocks to 2704 Clark Ave. The Scranton Road location will close on January 12, 2013, and the temporary branch on Clark Avenue will open one week later on January 22, 2013. The temporary location will have more computers and the materials, books, and collections most used by patrons at the South Branch in a bright and comfortable space.
