Partnering to Promote a Musical Experience Unique to Cleveland.
In the city that rocks, Cleveland Public Library (CPL) is teaming with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum to offer CPL patrons a completely unique musical experience. With free weekly music downloads from the Freegal Music Service, spotlights on key artists, special materials on music history, free programs, and more, CPL and the Rock Hall will celebrate Cleveland’s special place in the music world.
“CPL knows how passionate Clevelanders are about music, and the importance of music in our community, its history, and its future,” explains Felton Thomas, director of CPL. “CPL has a history of providing our patrons with access to music—starting as far back as sheet music and records and evolving to CDs. In today’s digital world, providing free downloads is the logical next step to give our patrons a way to experience their favorite music.”
CPL’s music experience kicks off July 18 with the launch of MyTunes page on cpl.org, which will give patrons the opportunity to chart their own musical experience. MyTunes will give CPL cardholders and participating CLEVNET members the ability to connect to the Freegal Music Service and download MP3s of their favorite music from Sony’s entire catalogue on an ongoing basis—up to three songs a week and over 150 per year. Patrons get to keep the songs they download forever, legally, and at no cost, a great benefit during these tough economic times. Patrons can experience music and highlights from the dynamic careers of artists from every era and genre, including Billie Holiday, Bob Marley, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, Michael Jackson, Ozzy Osbourne, and Run-D.M.C just to name a few. And CPL’s partnership with CLEVNET extends the free musical experience throughout the region to libraries in Cuyahoga, Lake, Summit, Erie, and Huron counties.
As part of MyTunes, CPL is joining the Rock Hall to take the experience to the next level. CPL will link patrons to the Rock Hall’s new app, “Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll,” post special Rock Hall content spotlighting artists available through MyTunes on cpl.org, and special discounts for Northeast Ohio residents and free events and educational programming available at the Rock Hall for our local community.
“This program combines CPL’s community presence and the Rock Hall’s educational and public programs in a way that leverages our city’s assets to bring some unique, fun and entertaining opportunities to the people of Cleveland,” said Todd Mesek, vice president of marketing and communications of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
