To stem the rising tide of housing and foreclosure issues in Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, Cleveland Public Library and community organizations are making important information and emergency resources available to Northeast Ohio residents.
Lax implementation of regulations led to the proliferation of predatory lending practices, with the unfortunate result of Cuyahoga County being named among regions with the highest rate of foreclosure nationwide.
In response to this crisis, Ohio has launched a state-wide initiative called Save the Dream which provides emergency assistance and timely information to homeowners seeking ways to save their homes and avoid foreclosure. In Cuyahoga County, a number of HUD approved counseling agencies are actively working to provide one-on-one assistance and education to homeowners who are struggling to meet their high-interest mortgages. Additionally, the Cleveland Public Library provides homeowners and renters with information and resources to help answer questions about the subject of foreclosure.
Two housing counseling agencies have offered to provide free information sessions to the public through our branches in the month of August. The first will be held Wednesday the 20th at 12:00 noon downtown in the Louis Stokes Wing (call 216-623-2860 for details) and the second will be held Saturday the 23rd 10:30 a.m. at Hough Branch on Crawford road (call 216-623-6997 for details).
Cleveland Public Library also has various books on the subject and for our patrons’ convenience, we have a list of area HUD approved counseling agencies and emergency assistance agencies available at the following link: Cuyahoga County Foreclosure Resource List
