Starting July 7th, all CPL branches and the Audio-Video Department will have a collection of Blu-ray Discs for checkout. Blu-ray Discs are the latest in video technology, with the capability to hold five times the information as DVDs. A list of titles in the CPL Blu-ray collection can be found here. Note that these discs will not play in standard DVD players.
The new format uses a blue-violet laser instead, hence the name Blu-ray. This technology will eventually take the place of the current DVDs. The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. Here is a sample list of Blu-ray disc players.
