National History Day

The Cleveland Public Library Main Library has unparalleled research collections available for students participating in National History Day 2009.  The Library holds a variety of material that documents the history of Cleveland, Northeast Ohio, Ohio, the United States and the World.

Primary source material available at the library includes but is not limited to original manuscripts, copies of important documents, first-hand accounts, diaries and reports, in print, in microform and online. 

About National History Day
National History Day (NHD) is a highly regarded academic program that promotes historical literacy through annual competitions and project based curriculum and instruction. Each year students are encouraged to participate in the NHD contest that requires them to research a historical topic using primary and secondary sources.  

Ohio winners at National History Day in 2008-2009 who used the Library’s collections included: 11th Place: Senior Group Documentary, "Introducing American to Americans: Roy Stryker and the FSA Photographs," 6th Place: Senior Individual Exhibit by Heidi Reis titled: "Her Cry for Nature: Rachel Carson, Silent Spring, and the Rise of the Environmental Movement," and Outstanding Entry on the History of the Federal Government: Danielle Swales for her Senior Individual Documentary "Harry Hopkins: Social Revolutionary of the Great Depression as Seen Through the WPA."
